The Humans by Matt Haig

The Humans by Matthew Haig

What are humans? What is the human condition? These questions are at the heart of Matt Haig’s wonderful novel The Humans and how better to explore the answers than through the eyes of an alien.

The alien is sent to earth to inhabit the body of Professor Andrew Martin of Cambridge University. He has a mission to complete. A mission that may not be as easy it sounds because the business of having to be a human keeps getting in the way.

What follows is a witty, insightful, and at times heart breaking look at what it is like to try your best to fit in when you don’t quite feel like everyone else.

Having discovered Matt Haig on Twitter via some articles he wrote about living with depression, I was looking forward to reading his fiction. The Humans doesn’t disappoint.

It is the kind of book that makes you want to stop and take stock of the things and people around you instead of running on autopilot, which is something most of us find ourselves doing from time to time.
