Review: La Roche-Posay Toleriane Teint Compact-Creme in Light Beige (11)

WHAT LA ROCHE-POSAY HAVE TO SAY:

‘La Roche-Posay introduce a revolutionary foundation texture for dry and sensitive skins. New Toleriane Teint Compact-Creme* provides the high coverage of a complexion corrector and the soothing properties of a skincare in an ultra melt-in texture.

La Roche-Posay has created an ultra-fine and melt-in coverage with a waterproof finish, thanks to an unprecedented double comfort texture

A New Exclusive Ultra Melting Texture

New Compact-Creme technology: The texture is composed of waxes, emollient oils and a texturising agent. Upon contact with the skin, the ingredients blend and swell to form a 3D network that spreads easily, and perfectly matches the skins surface textures – leaving a homogeneous fine film of natural looking coverage.

Unbearable Lightness by Portia de Rossi

There comes a time in most people’s life when they read a book that changes their outlook so profoundly that they want to thrust it into the arms of others and demand that they read it ASAP, for me that book is Unbearable Lightness by Portia de Rossi.

Subtitled A Story of Loss and Gain, you know you’re in for a painful read from the get go but I wasn’t expecting it to be this heart wrenching, even after watching de Rossi’s interview on Oprah.

Opening with the revelation that she is regularly woken from her slumber by the voice inside her that continually asks ‘What did you eat last night?’, Unbearable Lightness dives straight into de Rossi’s life during the filming of Ally McBeal when her eating disorder really came to the fore.

de Rossi interweaves her early life with that of life in LA, from becoming a model at age 12, changing her name at 15 (she was born Amanda Lee Rogers), to landing her first acting role and the decision to drop out of law school to pursue acting in the US.

It’s all dealt with in simple but powerful prose directly from the eye of the storm because de Rossi decided to speak from the heart of the issue rather than as a healthy person looking back making it obvious what was going through her mind at any given point in time.

Inevitably this book also deals with de Rossi’s battle to accept her sexuality and it’d be hard to imagine not including this aspect because at certain times this struggle seems (to me at least,) to enable her to fall deeper into her eating disorder. By that I mean, it seems that she felt she couldn’t control one aspect of her life so turned all her attention to following a strict diet and exercise regime which spiralled out of control and led to both bulimia and anorexia.

Review: Avene Gentle Milk Cleanser and Thermal Water Spray

Avene Cleanser and Thermal Water
R- mini Gentle Milk Cleanser L-small Thermal Water Spray
I won these Avene goodies back in May but fell behind on my skincare reviews so I’m only getting around to writing about them now.

First up we have the mini Gentle Milk Cleanser (50ml) which is a no-rinse formula (something I’m not a fan of at all,) that is designed to gently remove make up and leave the skin feeling perfectly cleansed.

Review: Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser and Instant Boost Skin Tonic Spritzer

Following on from my Liz Earle skin consultation back in June, I was really looking forward to trying the Cleanse and Polish and the Instant Boost Skin Tonic Spritzer that came in the goody bag that I received.

I’ve heard great things about Liz Earle from various different people, blogs and magazines so I interested to see how they’d fare on my skin.

Review: Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rich Fortifying and Soothing 24hr Hydrating Cream

I picked this up in Boots recently, it wasn’t the Vichy moisturiser I went in there looking for but it caught my eye so I bought it.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rich Fortifying and Soothing 24hr Hydrating Cream (phew, what a mouthful) cost me just under €20 for a 50ml jar (I paid with my points though, so happy days,) and according to Vichy it leaves skin ‘intensely hydrated, skin feels soothed. It feels supple, refreshed and velvety- soft. Sensations of tightness are reduced all day long. The skin feels resilient, supple and radiant.’

Review: Benefit B.Right It’s Potent! Eye Cream

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect eye cream for what seems like an eternity. I honestly don’t know why I’ve been having so much trouble, it’s not as if I’m making undue demands on eye cream. I mean I just want something that will take  care of my dark circles as well as keep the eye area hydrated. Not too much to ask for, is it?

With this mission in mind my interests where peaked when I first heard about Benefit’s It’s Potent! Eye Cream back in February. The fact that is was described as a ‘brightening eye cream to fade dark circles’, could only be a good thing as far as I was concerned.

Liz Earle Skin Consultation

Last Friday I attended the Liz Earle Event that was taking place in Wilde and Green, Milltown, Dublin. Wilde and Green is a gourmet supermarket/coffee shop with the Liz Earle laid out in it’s own little corner of the store.

I was booked in for 2pm but was seen sooner as I arrived early, which was lovely as it meant I wasn’t waiting around for ages. There was a choice between a skin consultation or a hand and arm massage. In chose the skin consultation as I’ve been intrigued by the Liz Earle range for a while now and was keen to see what they’d recommend.

Review: Sanctuary Radiance Exfoliator

WHAT SANCTUARY HAVE TO SAY:
‘The Sanctuary Brightening Facial Radiance Exfoliator refines and evens skin tone for lasting glow.
Ultra-fine apricot granules and grape seed exfoliate and refine, while a trio of pumpkin, pineapple and papaya extracts work naturally to help increase cell renewal. Skin is left feeling smooth and glowing with radiance.’
