Paula Dennan is a feminist, activist, writer and book reviewer who swapped city life for the quietness of Co. Kerry. She was once a regular runner until her health got in the way, she hopes to get back to it someday.
Cornflakegirls’ Musing as been through some changes since 2011, but is best described as a blog about books, feminism and life. I came late to a lot of things; the realisation I was bisexual, being pro-choice and feminism in general. My interest in feminism and LGBTQ+ rights and experiences turned me into an activist and organiser.
I am a founding member and the Convener of Kerry for Choice; a pro-choice group advocating for the repeal of the Eighth Amendment to the Irish Constitution and for the introduction of free, safe, legal and accessible about in Ireland. We are part of the national Abortion Rights Campaign and members of the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment.
I’m part of the Bi+ Ireland Coordinating Team and help out with all things social media and website related. Bi+ Ireland aims to create a space where bi+ people can make friends, access peer support and reduce any isolation they may experience. I wrote about making sure people in rural areas have the spaces and supports they need here – Being bi+ in rural Ireland
In 2015 I was involved with Yes Equality Kerry and canvassed for the marriage referendum. An experience I wrote about here – Marriage equality: the LGBTQ+ community, canvassing and voting yes
I can usually be found with a book in my hand or sharing links on social media to articles, blog posts and stuff from the internet that has caught my attention.
